A bare tool is only the cheaper choice if the equipment you already own makes it usable. A kit is only better value if you need its contents. Compare the cost of finishing your actual setup, not the largest discount badge.

Quick decision: Have a documented compatible battery and charger? Price the bare tool plus missing accessories. Starting without them? Compare a kit with the same tool. Need a different function, such as hammer drilling? Choose the right tool before comparing packages.

Make a short inventory first

Write down your next job, the tool function it needs, and the exact model numbers of your batteries and charger. “Same brand” or “looks like it fits” is not a compatibility check. Use the manufacturer’s compatibility information for the actual models; do not rely on an adapter or a marketplace title to establish approval.

Also list the accessories you need: for example, drill bits for the material and driver bits for the fasteners. A kit containing a drill, batteries and charger is not necessarily a kit containing everything for your project.

A real package example: DeWalt DCD800

The two US manufacturer listings were checked on 20 October 2026. They describe different packages around the DCD800 drill/driver, not a drill versus a hammer drill.

PackageManufacturer-listed contentsBest reason to compare it
DCD800B tool onlyDCD800 drill/driver and belt hook; battery and charger sold separatelyYou already have a verified compatible power setup
DCD800D2 kitDCD800, two DCB203 2Ah batteries, DCB112 charger, kit bag and belt hookYou need the batteries and charger as well as the tool

Check the DCD800B manufacturer listing and the DCD800D2 manufacturer listing against the seller’s exact offer. A listing with another suffix, a used tool or a seller-created bundle may contain different items.

The photograph shows the kit: one battery is fitted to the drill and the other is beside it. It does not show three batteries. Neither package’s listed contents includes a complete drill-bit assortment.

Compare complete baskets in one currency

Use this calculation for each offer:

Delivered setup cost = tool or kit + missing compatible power equipment + required accessories + delivery and tax.

Do not count a spare bag or charger as money saved if you would never have bought it. Conversely, a second battery may matter to your work even if one is enough to switch the tool on. Decide that from your expected use; we have not measured the runtime of these packages.

A hypothetical calculation illustrates the method: a bare-tool basket costing 120 units plus 90 for missing power equipment totals 210 before shared costs. A kit costing 180 units would cost 30 less in that example. These are invented arithmetic inputs, not current retailer prices or a deal claim. Use your own quotes in our DCD800 package comparison and calculator.

Check the seller and destination before paying

The links below are Amazon US listings. Confirm shipping to your address, seller identity, item condition, final tax and delivery charges, return terms and the exact package in your basket. If importing a kit, check the charger’s actual input-voltage label and manufacturer guidance for your supply; a plug adapter does not establish electrical compatibility.

If you already use another battery platform, compare a suitable tool there before switching brands. If you need masonry drilling, a different tool may be appropriate; buying more batteries does not add a hammer function to the DCD800.

Open the package that matches your inventory

We do not promise a current price, stock level or delivery date. If neither package fits, leave both. For help choosing the tool function, start with drill versus impact driver.

Save this before you order

Record the job, exact tool model, confirmed compatible battery and charger, missing accessories, delivered total and chosen seller. Keep the order’s contents list so you can compare it with what arrives. Read the tool and accessory instructions before use; this buying checklist is not an operating manual.
